The largest Belgian green hydrogen project was inaugurated on Tuesday 18 February2025.

This project is the Hyoffwind project by Virya energy, Messer and Hyoffgreen in collaboration with Besix and John Cockerill. It is located in Zeebrugge, an extremely strategic location given that the port of Antwerp-Bruges is the major export port in Europe and it is the largest chemical activity hub in Europe. The use of the green hydrogen produced will therefore be multiple: use for heavy mobility, for industry and injection in the gas network.

The Hyoffwind project is currently installing electrolysers to reach a total power of 25MW (3700 T/year) with a possibility of increasing to 100MW. Construction work is already well advanced and the installation will be ready to produce the H2 molecules in 2026.
